Teaching Approach and Curriculum
Child-Centred, Integrated Approach
We are led by what a child needs to grow and thrive. Our thoughtfully designed curriculum integrates the best of different approaches and methodologies. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, our classrooms are rich, inviting spaces where children’s ideas and interests shape meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Learning is fun and interactive, with a strong focus on inquiry, nurturing curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
We embrace the power of play, knowing that through play, children explore, imagine, solve problems, and build social-emotional skills in the most natural and joyful way.
Our indoor play time and various playing corners (e.g. dramatic and construction corners) help children in learning how to take turns and share toys with their friends while they are playing. They are occasionally given small home projects (such as using recycled materials to make craft) and bring them to school for show and tell sessions.
Rooted in Vygotsky’s socio-cultural theory, we scaffold learning by nurturing strong teacher-child relationships and peer collaboration, recognising that every child thrives within a supportive community. Through projects and group tasks, our children practise problem-solving, social skills, learning to interact with friends with kindness and respect. Our differentiated instruction also lets each child experience success and build confidence in learning.
Values-Centred
Christian values form the foundation of our curriculum, shaping not only
what children learn, but who they become. Grounded in God’s love and truth,
our approach nurtures the whole child — heart, mind, body, and soul.
By modeling Christ-like love, our teachers create a classroom where every child feels safe and valued. In this caring environment, children gain confidence in who they are and grow towards lives of purpose and joy.
Continuity of Care
At Green Pastures, we ensure continuity in teaching by having the same teacher journey with the class from Playgroup or N1 through the subsequent years. This long-term connection enables teachers to gain a deep understanding of each child’s aptitude, development, strengths, and areas for growth, allowing them to tailor learning experiences to meet individual needs more effectively.
This approach provides both children and families with a strong sense of stability and reassurance. Parents find comfort in knowing their child is cared for by someone who truly knows them. This consistency not only strengthens the parent-teacher partnership but also supports children emotionally and academically through personalised and responsive care.
